State Championship 2003

Nick Edmonds (171lbs.) capped off his season with a dramatic 5-3 victory over defending state champion Isaac Gengler of Lincoln Pius X. Edmonds avenged a loss to Gengler in the finals of last years' state tournament to claim his second state title. Mustang Junior Dirk Verplank concluded his season at 145 lbs. with a fourth place finish.

District A-2 Results

Phil Belk and Nick Edmonds placed first to enter the state tournament as the number 1 seeds from District A-2. In all the Mustangs qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament.

Metro Dual Championship 2003

The MN Mustangs finished as the #2 dual team in the Metro in a battle of the three Millard High Schools on February 6, 2003. A pin in the final match by Matt Jeffries sealed the victory for Millard North over Millard West at 39-30. In the contest for the championship, the Mustangs came up short in a 51-28 loss to Millard South. See the pictures HERE

Parent's Night took place at the home meet on Tuesday, January 21 vs. Bellevue West. The senior wrestlers honored their parents before the meet. After the meet, the wrestlers and parents gathered for a reception. See the Pictures HERE

Omaha Central Dual

In the last wrestling matches to be contested in the Omaha Central High School Gym, Millard North Dominated Central 49-27 on January 26, 2003.

Norfolk Tournament

Eleven Mustangs placed in this tournament held on February 1st, 2003 as Millard North missed second place by only half a point. Three Mustangs placed first (Steve Wanning, Dirk Verplank and Nick Edmonds) and Alton Hackworth won the award for the fastest pin. See the medal round results HERE.

Lexington Invite

The Mustangs finished this tough tournament in 8th place, highlighted by a championship at 171 by Nick Edmonds. Other Placers included Steve Wanning (6), Jim Salerno (6), Brett Bartlet (6), Dirk Verplank (3) and Phil Belk (3). The JV squad performed well also.

Bellevue West Dual

Parents Night was a rousing success as the Mustang Varsity and Junior Varsity Squads cruised to easy victories. See pictures of our Varsity and JV wrestlers in action here.

Millard West Tournament Results

The Mustangs took 7th place out of 13 teams at the Millard West Invite on January 11, 2003. The tournament was highlighted by first place finsihes from Brett Barlett (140) and Nick Edmonds (171). Other placers at this tough tourney included Stephan Wanning (103, 2nd), Dirk Verplank (145, 4th), Phil Belk (160, T3rd), and Andy Liu (275, 3rd). See the Pictures HERE. The Medal Results are HERE.

18th Annual MYWCA Tourny
The Booster Club hosted the 18th Annual tournament of the Metro Youth Wrestling Coaches Association. We thank all the parents and wrestlers who helped make it a success.

Millard North 40, Omaha North 31

The Mustangs visited the 7th-ranked Omaha North Vikings on January 7th, 2003. A dramatic pin in the final match of the meet by by Eric Panowicz sealed the victory for the Mustang Varsity Squad. Earlier, the Junior Varsity team cruised to an easy victory over Omaha North's JV squad. See the pictures HERE.

Varsity Squad Wins Sioux City Tournament

Millard North's Varsity Wrestlers cruised to 26 point win over its closest competitor on Saturday, December 21st. Winners of their brackets included Brett Bartlett (140), Dirk Verplank (145) and Nick Edmonds (171). In all, 13 wrestlers placed in the competition. See all the results HERE. The pictures are HERE.

Varsity Squad Takes 4th at the Ekfelt Tournament

The Mustangs started their year at the 57th Annual Vern Ekfelt Invitational Wrestling Tournament at North High School on December 5-6th. The team finished 4th out of 15 teams entered. Nick Edmonds went undefeated to take first at 171 lbs. Freshman Steve Wanning started his career by going all the way to the finals to get second place. Other placers at the tournament include Trevor Liebarth, Brett Bartlett, Dirk Verplank, Phil Belk, Joel Kelp, and Andy Liu. See the pictures HERE.
